Heavy Civil Project Manager - NCDOT Roadway

Cary, NC | $140,000 to $170,000 per year plus bonus | Full-time

A self-perform heavy civil contractor with a growing program in the Carolinas is hiring a Project Manager for NCDOT work in the Raleigh, Durham, and Cary area. The role runs NCDOT roadway, bridge, and utility projects from preconstruction through closeout, with backlog already awarded. Much of the scope is self-performed, including grading, storm drain, water and sewer, erosion control, and DOT roadway. The Project Manager reports directly to senior leadership.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, based in Cary, NC, with regular time on project sites across the Triangle.

Compensation

$140,000 to $170,000 base salary, plus a bonus.

What You'll Do

You will run NCDOT roadway, bridge, and utility projects from preconstruction through closeout. That starts with working alongside estimating on bids and the job handoff. You will own the budget, schedule, cost reports, forecasting, and margin on every project, submit accurate cost and income projections, and act on variances early.

In the field, you will lead superintendents, field engineers, and subcontractors to meet production, quality, and safety goals. You will issue subcontracts and purchase orders, manage subcontractor performance, and keep a strong safety culture on every site.

You will serve as the main contact for NCDOT, owners, engineers, inspectors, and vendors. You will manage change orders, pay estimates, submittals, claims, and contract documentation, run weekly schedule and cost meetings, and report project performance to senior leadership.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years as a Project Manager on heavy civil, highway, bridge, or utility projects for a general or self-perform contractor
• NCDOT project experience
• Track record of running projects from preconstruction through closeout
• Strong cost control, scheduling, and change order management skills
• Experience leading superintendents, field engineers, and subcontractors
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management, or equivalent field experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Vista (Viewpoint) and HCSS HeavyJob experience
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
• NCDOT Erosion and Sediment Control/Stormwater certification
• NCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control certification
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience managing self-performed grading, storm drain, and water and sewer work
• Based in the Raleigh, Durham, or Cary area
