Field Engineer (Heavy Highway / Civil Construction)

Full-Time | On-Site | Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana

Note:

  • This position requires being on-site five days a week at various job sites across Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.

  • In addition to base salary, there is bonus potential of 10–15% based on project performance.

About the Opportunity:
A well-respected heavy highway and civil construction contractor is looking for a Field Engineer to join their team. Known for delivering high-quality infrastructure projects, they emphasize safety, teamwork, and innovation while working on complex initiatives that enhance transportation and community access throughout Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the on-site Field Engineer for heavy highway and civil construction projects

  • Collaborate daily with Project Managers, Superintendents, and on-site crews

  • Manage material coordination and ensure certifications meet contract specifications

  • Monitor project progress, maintain detailed reports, and document daily site activities

  • Supervise subcontractor performance and manage timelines

  • Oversee concrete delivery schedules and pouring operations

  • Assist with project close-out activities and final reporting

  • Work in diverse outdoor environments, with occasional second-shift assignments

  • Travel to job sites within a 1-hour radius of Chicagoland or Northwest Indiana

  • Start each workday directly at the assigned job site

  • Company vehicle provided for job site travel

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of construction experience (2–5 years preferred)

  • Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering required

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Previous experience with a contractor is preferred

  • Heavy highway construction experience strongly preferred

  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification is a plus

  • Must reside within a 1-hour commute of job sites in Chicagoland or Northwest Indiana

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn construction software
