I&E Reliability Engineer – Chemical Manufacturing

I&E Reliability Engineer – Chemical Manufacturing

Long Beach, CA | $160,000 to $190,000 per year

This position supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a large continuous-process chemical manufacturing facility in Long Beach, CA. The role was created following a recent retirement and serves as the site’s primary technical subject-matter expert for instrumentation, electrical systems, and process controls. The preference is for a candidate with stronger depth in instrumentation and controls than in electrical power systems, though both areas fall within scope. The position works closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and capital project teams, and serves as the site’s primary liaison with Southern California Edison.

Schedule

Standard full-time schedule at the Long Beach facility. Confirm specific shift and on-call expectations with the employer.

Compensation

Salary of $160,000 to $190,000 per year, depending on experience.

What You’ll Do

This engineer provides day-to-day technical support for instrumentation, controls, and electrical power distribution systems across the facility. That includes leading and supporting troubleshooting efforts on instrumentation, electrical equipment, and control systems, and serving as the go-to resource for site teams when complex problems arise.

The role carries active involvement in Process Safety Management activities, hazard reviews, and risk assessments. You will support Management of Change processes, which includes documentation updates, programming validation, training coordination, and implementation oversight. Engineering design packages and capital project documentation are reviewed for compliance with site standards before work proceeds.

Reliability improvement is a central function. You will develop and execute improvement initiatives for instrumentation and electrical assets, maintain critical equipment lists, manage and improve preventive maintenance programs, and perform Root Cause Failure Analysis investigations with documented corrective actions. Key performance indicators for equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness are developed and maintained in this role.

On the capital project side, you will support Site Acceptance Testing, commissioning, and startup activities. Technical documentation including single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, instrumentation loop drawings, and equipment records falls within your ownership. Systems under your technical guidance include power distribution equipment, MCCs, VFDs, motors, transformers, substations, UPS systems, and field instrumentation. You will coordinate with contractors, engineering firms, utilities including Southern California Edison, and internal stakeholders during maintenance windows and project execution.
