Project Engineer, Heavy Civil

A large heavy civil contractor with a national footprint and an active Florida program is hiring a Project Engineer to support highway and bridge work in the Pensacola area. This role supports project management and field operations on roadway, bridge, drainage, and infrastructure projects, much of it DOT work, with a clear path to Project Manager.

Schedule
Full-time. Approximately 20 to 30 percent field time, with the remainder in the office. Relocation candidates welcome.

Compensation
$95,000 to $125,000 per year, plus bonus opportunity.

What You'll Do
This engineer supports project managers and superintendents on active heavy civil projects, handling RFIs, submittals, drawings, transmittals, approvals, and project documentation. The role tracks cost, quantities, production, materials, equipment, and schedule updates, and schedules work activities and material deliveries with the field team. This position assists with budgets, forecasts, cost reports, and change orders, and communicates regularly with owners, subcontractors, vendors, field crews, and project leadership. The engineer reviews drawings, specifications, and contract documents, spends 20 to 30 percent of their time in the field observing construction progress, and supports safety, quality, and contract compliance throughout each project.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering experience on heavy civil, highway, road, bridge, drainage, or utility projects
• Strong exposure to RFIs, submittals, documentation, cost tracking, and scheduling
• Ability to read plans, specifications, and contract documents
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• FDOT or other state DOT project experience
• Experience with Primavera P6, HCSS, or Bluebeam
• EIT or PE credential
• Spanish language proficiency
