Tax Manager – Public Accounting

A highly regarded CPA firm in the heart of Phoenix is seeking to hire a skilled Tax Supervisor to join their team.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and various reports to ensure accuracy and adherence to reporting standards
  • Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with all tax regulations and requirements
  • Implement and maintain efficient accounting systems
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency and knowledge of complex transactions
  • Conduct research on intricate accounting and tax issues, and oversee research activities of team members
  • Identify potential problems or solutions through the analysis of interactions and technical data
  • Evaluate alternative solutions to address client challenges and needs effectively
  • Lead engagement planning, including budgeting and risk assessment
  • Participate actively in tax planning initiatives
  • Monitor individual and team productivity, ensuring efficiency and optimal performance
  • Stay updated on business, accounting, and tax developments, and advise clients accordingly
  • Prepare comprehensive client correspondence, including technical issues and recommendations
  • Develop expertise in specialized industries while maintaining generalist proficiency
  • Gain in-depth understanding of clients' businesses and industries, addressing significant accounting and tax matters
  • Identify billing opportunities to provide additional value to clients
  • Ensure smooth billing and collection processes
  • Recognize opportunities for value-added billing
  • Be prepared to work overtime, particularly during tax deadlines
  • Be knowledgeable about the range of services offered by the firm and identify potential cross-selling opportunities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, financial officers, and other professionals
  • Participate actively in networking, marketing, and business development activities
  • Engage with professional and community organizations
  • Generate new business while effectively managing workload
  • Attend training sessions on technical issues and updates in tax law
  • Provide guidance to staff accountants and manage client relationships
  • Supervise and oversee workflows
  • Lead professional training for staff and conduct performance reviews
  • Encourage the effective use of tax and business software and technology
  • Promote a collaborative and supportive work environment
  • Serve as a resource for staff members to address questions and concerns
  • Assist in recruiting both new and experienced accounting staff

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
  • Master's degree in taxation preferred; Master's in accounting advantageous
  • At least 3 years of public accounting experience, focusing on small business and individual taxation
  • Hold a valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
