Tax Manager – Public Accounting

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Tax Supervisor to join our growing team at our CPA firm located in North Central Phoenix, AZ.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and various reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to reporting and procedural standards
  • Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns in compliance with payment, reporting, and other tax requirements
  • Develop, modify, implement, and document record keeping and accounting systems
  • Demonstrate expertise in complex transactions and an understanding of business issues
  • Conduct research on complex accounting and tax matters, and supervise assigned staff in their research activities
  • Identify and analyze trends, patterns, and technical data to identify potential problems or solutions
  • Evaluate the benefits, costs, and risks of alternative solutions for clients' challenges and needs
  • Lead the engagement planning process, including budgeting, risk assessment, and strategic development
  • Participate in tax planning activities
  • Ensure individual and team productivity by closely monitoring realization, utilization, and engagement efficiencies
  • Stay updated on business, accounting, and tax developments, and communicate potential implications to clients and their businesses
  • Prepare complex client correspondence, including recommendations, technical issues, and proposals
  • Develop expertise in specialized industries while maintaining proficiency as a generalist
  • Gain a thorough understanding of clients' businesses and industries, including significant accounting and tax issues
  • Identify value-add billing opportunities
  • Engage in the billing and collection process
  • Recognize potential value-add billing opportunities
  • Be available for overtime work, especially during months with tax deadlines
  • Familiarize yourself with the range of services offered by the firm, identify cross-selling opportunities, and contribute to the growth of the firm's practice and industry teams
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, financial officers, referral partners, business leaders, and professionals
  • Participate in networking, marketing, and business development events
  • Join and actively engage with professional and community organizations
  • Generate new business opportunities while effectively managing your workload
  • Attend training sessions on technical issues and updates in tax law
  • Direct and guide staff accountants at all levels and take the lead in managing client relationships
  • Supervise staff and oversee workflows
  • Lead staff training, conduct performance reviews, and evaluate work quality
  • Promote effective use of tax and business software and technology within the firm
  • Create a collaborative and mentoring environment within the team
  • Act as a support to address questions and concerns raised by the staff
  • Assist with the recruitment of new accounting professionals

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
  • Preferred: Master's degree in taxation; Beneficial: Master's degree in accounting
  • At least 3 years of public accounting experience, specialized in small business and individual taxation
  • Must hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
