A nonprofit skilled nursing facility in Woodbury is hiring an Assistant Director of Nursing to join its clinical leadership team. Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, this role assists in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day clinical and administrative operations of the Nursing Services Department, leading charge nurses and supervisors and supporting regulatory compliance and quality improvement.

Compensation
$108,000 to $121,000 per year, based on experience.

What You'll Do
This role assists the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day operations of the nursing department in compliance with federal, state, and local standards. The Assistant Director of Nursing provides direct leadership and administrative oversight to charge nurses and nurse supervisors, offering training in supervisory principles and delegating operational authority as appropriate, and conducts daily clinical rounds throughout resident care areas and nurses' stations to monitor care delivery, medication passes, treatment protocols, and infection prevention standards.

The role participates in preliminary and comprehensive resident clinical assessments, including PASARR, and leads the development of written, person-centered care plans. The Assistant Director of Nursing assists in managing departmental staffing needs, developing daily work assignments, scheduling staff hours, and posting required daily staffing information, and supports the recruitment, selection, orientation, professional licensing verification, and performance evaluation of nursing personnel. The role coordinates care continuity with attending physicians, medical consultants, government agencies, and interdisciplinary service teams.

This role leads and supports the facility's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, participates in state and federal surveys, and assists in developing plans of correction. The Assistant Director of Nursing oversees medication administration and treatment schedules, investigating and reporting medication errors to the Director of Nursing, and assists with departmental budget planning, recommending equipment, supply, and resource allocations. The role partners with the Staff Development Coordinator to plan and conduct staff in-service training programs and ensure adherence to facility policies and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut
  • Active CPR certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing supervisory/leadership experience in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, or related healthcare setting
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
  • In-depth knowledge of long-term care regulations, CMS Requirements of Participation, medical practices, and state health codes
  • Strong independent clinical judgment, documentation skills, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to perform physical duties associated with clinical rounds and emergency resident support

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
