AUTOMATION TECHNICIAN / ENGINEER – INJECTION MOLDING
Chicago, IL (western suburbs) | $29 to $40 Per Hour

A custom plastic injection molding manufacturer located just outside Chicago, IL is seeking an Automation Technician to support the installation, troubleshooting, and optimization of automated manufacturing systems, including robotics, PLCs, vision systems, and auxiliary devices integrated into a high volume manufacturing environment.

Schedule
Full time, with occasional overtime required during equipment launches or upgrades.

Compensation
$29 to $40 per hour, based on experience.

What You’ll Do
The Automation Technician installs, programs, and troubleshoots automation equipment including robotics, PLC controlled systems, sensors, and pneumatic components, and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on automation and related machinery. This person works closely with engineering and production teams to improve process reliability, cycle time, and quality, diagnosing and resolving issues across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. The role supports new equipment commissioning, upgrades, and line integrations, and includes developing and maintaining documentation for programs, wiring schematics, and mechanical layouts. The Automation Technician also trains operators and maintenance staff on safe operation and basic troubleshooting of automated systems, and looks for opportunities to enhance system performance, reduce downtime, and increase production efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands on experience

  • 3+ years of experience maintaining or programming automated equipment in a manufacturing environment

  • Working knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting

  • Experience with robotics integration

  • Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics and technical documentation

  • Injection molding background

Preferred Qualifications

  • Allen-Bradley PLC experience

  • Fanuc, ABB, or similar robotics platform experience

  • Strong communication and problem solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
