A company is hiring an HVAC Design Engineer to design and develop heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems for commercial and residential construction projects. This role performs load calculations, determines ventilation requirements, prepares system layouts, develops construction drawings, and coordinates designs with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

Compensation
$65,000 to $75,000 per year.

What You'll Do
This engineer designs HVAC systems and associated controls based on project specifications, building requirements, and customer needs, performing heating and cooling load calculations to determine system capacities and equipment requirements. The role calculates ventilation and airflow requirements in accordance with applicable codes, and selects and sizes HVAC equipment, including air-handling units, rooftop units, split systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, and fans. This position designs ductwork, piping, ventilation, and mechanical system layouts, and prepares and revises HVAC plans, schematics, details, schedules, and construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD. The engineer reviews and interprets architectural drawings and construction plans, and coordinates HVAC designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems. This role collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and clients throughout the design and construction process, develops equipment specifications, material requirements, and cost estimates, and reviews equipment submittals and shop drawings to confirm design compliance. The engineer identifies design conflicts and recommends practical solutions, responds to RFIs and provides technical support during construction, and participates in project meetings, design reviews, site visits, and field inspections. This position ensures HVAC designs comply with applicable building, energy, and ventilation codes, and maintains accurate design documentation while completing projects within schedule and budget.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 2 to 4 years of professional HVAC design experience
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
  • Experience preparing HVAC drawings, layouts, schematics, and construction documents
  • Knowledge of heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation requirements, ductwork design, and piping system design
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, engineering plans, technical specifications, and construction documents
  • Understanding of HVAC equipment selection, sizing, and application
  • Working knowledge of applicable mechanical, building, energy, and ventilation codes
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary design and construction teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, or multifamily properties
  • Familiarity with applicable ASHRAE standards and mechanical and energy codes
  • Experience with HVAC load-calculation or energy-modeling software
  • Experience reviewing equipment submittals and supporting projects during construction
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward professional engineering licensure

Compensation and Benefits
