The Operations & Maintenance Technician II is responsible for the start, stop, and monitoring of power plant equipment, including reading gauges and meters and recording activity in operating logs. This role uses computers and monitoring equipment to measure, record, and adjust operating parameters, and performs a range of plant maintenance tasks including diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment. The technician also supports overhaul maintenance, system improvement projects, and the development of operational procedures and operator training materials to improve plant safety, reliability, and efficiency, while ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.

Schedule
On site at the San Diego, CA facility. Availability required for nights, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. Occasional travel may be required.

Compensation
$45.00 to $60.00 per hour, based on experience.

What You'll Do
The Operations & Maintenance Technician II performs complex technical support duties requiring specialized operational knowledge, making decisions on non-routine or escalated technical issues and working under limited to no supervision. This includes meeting contract sales agreement requirements within safe and efficient equipment operating limits, ensuring strict adherence to safety, NERC, and environmental procedures, and communicating with the Balancing Authority using three way communication. The technician prepares and maintains reports as required, interprets visual and auditory signals from the control panel, and performs control room and outside operation of station equipment during routine, abnormal, and emergency conditions.

Day to day, this role performs start up, operation, monitoring, shutdown, and lock out of plant auxiliary equipment, and operates plant mobile equipment including forklifts and man lifts. The technician performs chemical analysis on plant water systems (boiler water, demineralized water, condensate water, feedwater, cooling water, and raw water), operates and maintains a reverse osmosis system and cation and anion bed demineralizing system, and supports maintenance and upkeep of site buildings and grounds. This person may also provide work direction and training to small groups of employees.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, technical or vocational school degree, military service, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of directly related experience, including work as a senior level plant operator
  • Experience working with and around hazardous energy, chemicals, and waste materials
  • Experience using testing equipment and calibration appliances
  • Understanding of environmental and safety regulations
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, procedures, and technical manuals
  • Basic computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Valid U.S. driver's license with acceptable MVR history, if applicable

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree (AA) or equivalent, or trade school certification, in mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation
  • Mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation and controls (I&C) experience
  • Familiarity with NERC requirements for simple or combined cycle power plant operation
  • Experience with Maximo, TK Pro, or similar plant management software
