Product Development and Production Manager - Apparel

New York, NY | $80,000 to $95,000 per year | Full-time

A women's contemporary fashion company in New York City is hiring a Product Development and Production Manager to manage products from design handoff through final production. The role is the main link between Design, Technical Design, Production, overseas vendors and factories, and management. It covers multiple brands and categories, with responsibility for delivering products on time, at the approved quality, and within cost targets.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, in New York, NY. Some early morning or evening communication with overseas vendors is required.

Compensation

$80,000 to $95,000 per year.

What You'll Do

You will manage product development from the initial design handoff through prototypes, salesman samples (SMS), and production. You will work with Design to make sure tech packs, bills of materials, measurements, construction details, fabrics, and trims are complete before development starts. You will track sample status, comments, revisions, and approvals, coordinate fit sessions with Design, and get fit comments to factories on schedule. You will finalize production BOMs only after fabric, color, and trim approvals are complete.

You will get development and production costing from vendors and factories. You will review FOB and DDP costs, fabric consumption, labor, trims, minimums, duties, and tariffs. You will push back on cost increases, find savings without compromising design or quality, and negotiate MOQs, pricing, lead times, and development charges. You will also support sourcing and vendor allocation decisions based on capability, quality, price, capacity, and delivery.

You will manage the move from development into production and track orders from placement through shipment. That covers fabric and trim readiness, cutting, sewing, finishing, inspections, and delivery. You will flag delays early, resolve quality, quantity, and cost issues, make sure factories follow approved samples and specs, and work with Logistics to meet delivery dates.

You will lead regular status updates, set priorities and follow up across teams, and escalate major cost, delay, quality, and vendor issues to management. You will keep product and production data current in WFX and Momentis, and prepare development, costing, production, and delivery reports against the seasonal calendar.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in fashion product development, production, or product management
• Strong knowledge of the women's contemporary fashion market and product lifecycle
• Experience working directly with overseas factories and vendors
• Strong knowledge of apparel construction, fabrics, trims, costing, and manufacturing processes
• Experience managing prototypes, SMS, production approvals, and delivery timelines
• Experience with FOB and DDP costing and vendor negotiation
• Experience with PLM or product development systems
• Advanced Excel skills
• Ability to work with international vendors across multiple time zones

Preferred Qualifications

• WFX PLM experience
• Momentis ERP experience
• Experience managing multiple brands or categories at the same time
• Knowledge of tariffs, duties, and import costing
• Experience with overseas factory quality inspections
