Quality Engineer

Job Title: Quality Assurance Engineer

The role of a quality engineer is to investigate and troubleshoot product and process-related issues, while also serving as a liaison between us and our external customers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Investigate recurring discrepancies and develop appropriate disposition and corrective actions
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions, dispositions, and modifications
  • Create and implement program quality plans, programs, and procedures utilizing statistical quality control statistics, lean manufacturing concepts, and Lean-Six Sigma tools and analyses
  • Lead or participate in quality process improvement projects
  • Coordinate cross-functional problem-solving teams to facilitate effective 8D investigations
  • Provide training on quality procedures to plant staff
  • Perform routine go-and-see, FPLP approval, and layered process audits
  • Update work instructions and critical documentation such as PFMEAs, control plans, and E Dockets as necessary
  • Conduct material testing and provide diagnosis/recommendations for purchased products with poor quality or performance issues
  • Prepare customer-requested documentation pertaining to claim details
  • Handle customer deductions forwarded by accounts receivable, following established processes
  • Act as a neutral party between customers and the organization during claim investigations
  • Perform other assigned duties as required

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing or updating control plans and FMEAs
  • Experience in researching and issuing corrective actions
  • Excellent written, verbal, and telephone communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Understanding of relevant computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, and function-specific software
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Occasional travel may be required (less than 5%)

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant work experience
  • 2 or more years of technical experience required, automotive industry experience is advantageous
  • Lean/Six Sigma green belt or higher is a plus
  • ASQ CQE/CQM certification is a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work on your feet on the plant floor for extended periods
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Capacity to perform minor heavy lifting
