Electrical Power Engineer, Power System Design

Location: Long Beach, CA
Job Type: Full-time
Travel: About 25%, including air travel
Pay: $140,000 to $190,000 per year

Lead electrical power design packages from load studies to commissioning at a nationally recognized power and controls engineering firm with employee ownership.

Must-Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • FE exam completed
  • 5+ years developing PE-stampable electrical construction and specification packages, including load studies, single lines, plot plans, lighting, grounding, and conduit and cable schedules
  • Strong knowledge of the NEC and IEEE 3000 Series (formerly the color books)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel about 25%

What You’ll Do

  • Lead electrical power load studies
  • Develop construction packages and specifications ready for PE stamp and plan check
  • Build power equipment BOMs and coordinate vendor pricing
  • Conduct field walkdowns and as-build existing electrical and E&I systems
  • Perform factory acceptance testing on power equipment
  • Lead startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting
  • Support project managers on budgets, change orders, cost estimates, and proposals
  • Provide after-hours client support as needed

Nice-to-Haves

  • ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower modeling experience
  • Relay settings experience with GE Multilin or SEL
  • API 500 knowledge
  • Area classification, motor/breaker schematics, and lightning protection drawings
  • PE license

Compensation and Benefits

  • $140,000 to $190,000 per year
  • Discretionary bonus for hours over 80 per two-week period
