Operations Manager

  • Candidate with extensive experience in operating paper machines is a must, along with a solid background in operations. Preferably, someone with prior experience as a Paper Machine Manager/Superintendent who has handled various operational roles throughout their career.

The Position:

As an Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the safety, reliability, cost control, quality assurance, productivity, and employee engagement within a goal-oriented environment. This role entails managing the operations at the Solvay Mill and reports directly to the General Manager.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead and guide mill personnel to ensure a safe working environment, striving for 100% safety compliance by promoting a safety culture, implementing effective safety systems and processes.
  • Cultivate an atmosphere where safety is the utmost priority.
  • Efficiently manage production performance.
  • Promote teamwork and collaborative efforts among employees.
  • Develop plans and monitor production performance.
  • Troubleshoot quality and operational issues, creating systems and structures to prevent their recurrence.
  • Set ambitious departmental goals and objectives to achieve exceptional performance.
  • Deliver on customer expectations by operating in a manner that meets their needs.
  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives and spearhead efforts to improve cost efficiency at the mill.
  • Assist in developing operational forecasts and budgets to enhance mill profitability.
  • Drive systematic improvement in mill operations and other related processes such as communication, safety, quality, and employee engagement.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in leadership roles within the Sheet Paper manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement in all areas, with a particular focus on safety, environmental concerns, quality assurance, production efficiency, and cost optimization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of communicating effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills (MS Office, MS Project, JD Edwards, Panther, etc.).
