Operations Manager
Power Plant Operations Manager
The Operations Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight for plant operations, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient functioning of all generating equipment under the guidance of the General Manager. This role is responsible for maintaining strict compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards, while optimizing plant performance and supporting a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and direct control room operators, outside operators, and other operations personnel to meet generation goals, maintain efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance at all levels.

Serve as the primary liaison with the Energy Management team to ensure plant output aligns with market obligations.

Plan, coordinate, and support facility outages, testing, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Develop, implement, and refine standard operating procedures for start-up, shutdown, and both routine and emergency operations.

Maintain accurate and efficient shift schedules to ensure appropriate staffing during normal operations and outages.

Investigate operational issues and incidents to enhance equipment availability, reduce maintenance needs, and improve overall plant performance.

Prepare timely and accurate reports on plant operations and outage events.

Recruit, interview, and onboard operations personnel, ensuring thorough safety training and orientation.

Assist in the preparation of departmental operating and capital budgets; manage operating supply inventories, including chemicals and other consumables.

Act as project manager for specific facility initiatives and operational improvement projects.

Track and report liquid fuel inventories in coordination with Energy Management.

Collaborate with the Maintenance department on troubleshooting and resolving equipment performance issues.

Set individual and departmental goals aligned with market dynamics and stakeholder expectations.

Support EHS and Engineering teams in developing and implementing processes related to safety, root cause analysis, change management, and documentation.

Serve as the primary technical contact for ISO-NE and the transmission operator for non-real-time communications, including outage requests, audit data submissions, and production issue resolution.

Fulfill duties as the NERC Compliance Coordinator (NCC), overseeing adherence to NERC Reliability Standards and submitting NERC GADS reports.

Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for NERC Operations and Planning standards and ensure compliance with NERC CIP Medium OT cybersecurity standards in collaboration with internal and external resources.
Education & Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical leadership experience required.

Minimum 5 years of experience in a power plant or similar industrial environment; gas turbine combined cycle experience highly preferred.

At least 2 years of supervisory experience managing technical, administrative, and supervisory personnel.

Strong leadership, communication, and motivational skills essential.
