  1. A distinguished healthcare organization is seeking a Physical Therapy Specialist to join their Outpatient Rehabilitation team in Elmira, NY.

  1. Design and implement individualized treatment programs based on the principles and practices of Physical Therapy, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Report to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services.


1. Review and evaluate Physical Therapy requisitions.

a. Conduct patient interviews and assess their physical condition and needs.

2. Develop personalized exercise and treatment plans for assigned patients.

a. Determine appropriate equipment usage, application, and body positioning, making necessary adjustments during the administration of treatments such as exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobility, whirlpool, hot packs, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, electrical stimulation, and traction.

b. Instruct patients on program segments including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.

c. Recommend modifications or changes to the patient's program based on personal evaluation of progress.

d. Consult with physicians as needed to discuss available alternatives.

3. Prepare written documentation, including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries, in accordance with professional and departmental requirements.

4. Communicate observations, facts, and comments with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to ensure efficient coordination of the overall healthcare plan.

5. Provide guidance and direction to staff members assisting in patient care.

6. Uphold department policies, procedures, objectives, quality initiative program, safety measures, and infection control.

a. Adhere to hospital-wide safety responsibilities:

1. Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.

2. Possess a working knowledge of all hospital safety policies and procedures, including fire safety and disaster protocols.

3. Follow all safety practices on equipment.

4. Use all safety devices on equipment and ensure they are in proper working condition.

5. Wear appropriate safety clothing, glasses, gloves, shoes, etc. as required and adhere to "Universal Precautions" as necessary.

6. Report any unsafe act or condition to the supervisor.

7. Attend safety programs when conducted.

b. Be familiar with and adhere to the department's "Policy and Procedure" manual.

c. Assist the Clinical Coordinator with quality initiative indicators as needed.

7. Assist with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

8. Attend required meetings and participate in assigned committees.

9. Aid in the transportation of patients to and from the PT Department when necessary.

10. Assume the duties and responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absence.

11. Enhance professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, keeping up with current literature, attending in-service meetings, workshops, etc.

12. Attend all annual mandatory educational programs required for the position.

13. Provide age-appropriate care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

14. Understand and demonstrate the importance of meeting the customer's/patient's needs by interacting with them in a friendly and caring manner, being attentive to their psychological and physical requirements, and maintaining communication to provide a secure and pleasant experience.


  • Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a license to practice Physical Therapy in NYS at the time of hiring.


  • Prior experience in a hospital setting is preferred.


  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.


  • Significant physical effort and strain; occasional repetitive motions. May involve lifting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to independently lift at least thirty (30) pounds and up to one-hundred and fifty (150) pounds with assistance.


  • Category II. Involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. However, there may be occasional unplanned Category I tasks.


  • Adhere to universal precautions when providing patient care.
