Job Description:

  1. In this role, you will report directly to the Chief Nursing Officer at the site and indirectly to the Administrative Director of Nursing Specialty - Perioperative Services for the market. You will assume leadership responsibility for all aspects of the Surgical Services department.
  • You will have programmatic responsibilities in Nursing, and your recommendations will contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, equipment standardization, capital planning, recruitment and retention efforts, process improvement initiatives, and coordination of the Joint Commission Survey Process.
  • You will approve procedures and protocols, or seek approvals from other departments when necessary. Additionally, you will develop, monitor, and revise functional processes.
  • You will provide input into the development and revision of the organizational structure for your areas of responsibility. You will also have approval authority for personnel actions such as hiring, firing, and disciplinary measures.
  • To ensure the smooth functioning of the department, you will need to complete performance appraisals in a timely manner. You will identify the need for policy development or revision, define policies in collaboration with higher-level management, and establish clear goals and objectives.
  • You will work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement short to intermediate goals and measures for your areas of responsibility. You will measure and assess performance and assist in long-range goal development as needed.
  • Managing the budget for your areas of responsibility will also be a key part of your role. You will monitor activities to ensure compliance with laws, government regulations, Joint Commission requirements, and DMC policies.
  • As directed, you will implement external and internal audit recommendations and ensure that hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity in their suppliers.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. A Master's degree in Nursing, Business, Health Care Administration, or related field. If you have two degrees, one of them must be in Nursing.

2. At least seven years of clinical experience, with progressively more responsible management experience.

3. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Michigan.

Required Skills:

1. Analytical ability to develop innovative solutions for complex administrative, technical, or human situations. You must be able to anticipate and resolve a wide range of issues, assess the need for process improvement, and evaluate multiple solutions or options independently.

2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders. You must be skilled in obtaining and interpreting information and exercise discretion in communication. Conflict resolution skills are essential for policy-related issues within and across departments. You should also have strong reading, writing, and presentation skills.

3. In-depth knowledge of healthcare administration and operations, including human, legal, technological, fiscal, and customer aspects of care delivery.

4. Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to define objectives, identify stakeholders, plan steps, allocate resources, and achieve goals and objectives in a timely manner.

5. Strong leadership abilities, including a proven track record of taking on increasing levels of responsibility, comfortable decision-making, coaching and counseling skills, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
